Multi-talented Tipperary Rose to Deliver a Keynote Lecture titled “Let the People Sing”
The Tipperary Rose of Tralee, Tara Brady, won the hearts of many viewers with her memorable live performance opposite Dáithi O’Sé on RTE Television last month. With many strings to her bow, including music and dance, Tara is also a keen student of Irish history. Holding a masters degree in Public History and Cultural Heritage from the University of Limerick, she has carried out in-depth research on Irish rebel ballads.
On Wednesday, October 2, she will give an illustrated talk at an event in the Cabragh Wetlands Visitor Centre, Thurles titled. ‘Let the People Sing – the Resurgence of Irish Rebel Ballads’. Also contributing on the night will be local singers and historians, Jimmy Duggan and Liam O’Donnchú.
Speaking before the event, Ms. Brady said: “I am delighted to return to Thurles as Tipperary Rose to speak at ‘Let the People Sing – the Resurgence of Irish Rebel Ballads’. I recently completed my Masters thesis on the topic, ‘Let the People Sing: The Wolfe Tones, Cultural Heritage and Mediated Representation in Irish Public Life, 1962-2024’, so I will be delighted to share some of my research. I look forward to exploring the role of rebel songs in the historical consciousness of the people of Tipperary and beyond as part of an evening of engaging and exciting historical discussion and singing.”
The event is being held as a fund-raiser for the Cabragh Wetlands Sustainability Project and commences at 8 pm with admission costing €10. All welcome for what promises to be a most interesting evening with plenty of music and song and a cuppa to follow.
